چکیده

Wild germplasm can be classified as the raw material essential for crop improvement. Introgression of wild is normally used in breeding to increase quality or resilience evolving biotic and abiotic threats. Here, we explore potential introgressing Vaccinium elliottii into commercial blueberry germplasm. a diploid species endemic southeastern United States that possesses highly desirable economically important traits such as: short bloom ripe period, adaptation upland sandy soils, disease resistance, firmness, pleasant flavor. To examine hybridization, evaluated populations interspecific hybrids across multiple stages (i.e., F1, F2, backcrosses) two seasons. We our extensive pedigree data generate values pre-breeding hybrid populations. Hybrid performance was considering fitness plant vigor height) addition evaluating six fruit-quality marketable-related size, acidity, soluble solids, weight, yield). Overall, F2 backcrosses rapidly achieved market thresholds, presenting not significantly different from Our results confirmed exploiting high genetic variability contained V. hybridization. Additionally, developed resources further utilized process, advancing selections fruit environmental adaptation.

Introgression of Crop Alleles into Wild or Weedy Populations

The evolutionary significance of introgression has been discussed for decades. Questions about potential impacts of transgene flow into wild and weedy populations brought renewed attention to the introgression of crop alleles into those populations. In the past two decades, the field has advanced with considerable descriptive, experimental, and theoretical activity on the dynamics of crop gene ...

Early-generation germplasm introgression from Sorghum macrospermum into sorghum (S. bicolor).

Sorghum has been improved by public and private breeding programs utilizing germplasm mostly from within the species Sorghum bicolor. Recently, hybridization with an Australian species, S. macrospermum (AAB1B1YYZZ), has been demonstrated and the genomic relationship to S. bicolor (AAB1B1) shown to be partially compatible. For this species to be potentially useful to sorghum improvement programs...

AGHmatrix: R Package to Construct Relationship Matrices for Autotetraploid and Diploid Species: A Blueberry Example.

Progress in the rate of improvement in autopolyploid species has been limited compared with diploids, mainly because software and methods to apply advanced prediction and selection methodologies in autopolyploids are lacking. The objectives of this research were to (i) develop an R package for autopolyploids to construct the relationship matrix derived from pedigree information that accounts fo...

Sequence evidence for sporadic intergeneric DNA introgression from wheat into a wild Aegilops species.

Introgressive hybridization has played a crucial role in the evolution of many plant species, especially polyploids. The duplicated genetic material and wide geographical distribution facilitate hybridization and introgression among polyploid species having either homologous or homoeologous genomes. Such introgression may lead to the production of recombinant genomes that are more difficult to ...

A metapopulation model for the introgression from genetically modified plants into their wild relatives

Most models on introgression from genetically modified (GM) plants have focused on small spatial scales, modelling gene flow from a field containing GM plants into a single adjacent population of a wild relative. Here, we present a model to study the effect of introgression from multiple plantations into the whole metapopulation of the wild relative. The most important result of the model is th...
